LCD TV Buying - part 684

June 25th, 2006

Darn, I hate shopping for a new LCD television. As mentioned, I first set my mind on the 42PF9831, the new Philips flagship TV. However, no 1920 x 1080p screen, in contrast to the 37PF9731 (which BTW does not accept 1080p signals, only 1080i).

Which really put me down, as this would mean no true-HD. I like the big, white surroundings of the 42PF9831 and the full Ambilight though, so I will wait till both TV’s are available to compare them, but I must admit that the lack of a 1920×1080 screen on the 42″ really is a big setback.

In the mean time, I spend my time reading a couple of forums: GOT (Dutch), Hifi-forum (German) and AV Forums (UK)

    Hi,
I too am keenly awaiting the 37PF9731 - don’t know what is the diff between 1080p, or i, but still..
I am having a heck of a time finding out about it except as you say via the forums, particularly the European ones(v.good), even Philips UK are evasive, if not misleading..
My other concern is that when I get one, I will want the Floor stand and am told by a French supplier that it is only orderable at time of purchase and yet I can no find a UK supplier who sells original Philips stands, only cheap no-brand universal type stuff. Do you know if a French sourced TV will be UK compatible?? If I hear more, happy to pass on.
    Best, Paul.

Philips Cusumer Care in Australia confirmed
    Re: Retail & Pricing 37PF9731

This set is due to be in stores during September.
The RRP is expected to be A$5999.95

ie. same as the outgoing 37PF9830 which is going for mid 4’s in retail electrical stores…
