Minimize Rhapsody to System Tray

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Running Rhapsody all day, I got really annoyed by the fact that it stayed in my toolbar, and that there was no way to minimize it to the system tray. For a while I used DM2 as my window manager to minimize it, but even with all additional functions disabled it was still way to intrusive, way to complicated for everyones use, and doubleclicking the systray icon would not do what I wanted it to do.

But then I found TrayIt!, a minimalist, freeware window manager, which does only one thing: Minimize applications to the system tray (all I needed). I set it to automatically put Rhapsody in the system tray when I minimize it, left all other settings untouched, and it works like it is supposed to do, and I hardly ever notice it. Highly recommended! (local copy of TrayIt! 3?)

Freeware Internet Explorer 7.0 Password Viewer

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Because I got a new laptop, I wanted to view/save all my passwords stored by IE over the years. Some of them I really don’t know anymore (AutoComplete makes you lazy), and I hate finding out in a couple of months that I forgot that one password for that one important site.

I found quite a lot of shareware tools, but of couse I wanted a freeware version (as these shareware tools probably profit from some open source code), also because it has a one-time need.

As I used IE7 (rc1), this became a bit harder, as IE7 has changed the way the passwords are store. However, with a bit of luck I found the excellent IE PassView - Internet Explorer 7.0 Password Viewer (released 2 days ago). IE7 compatible, command line export mode, all I needed!

Blogged about to be kept as a future reference :)

AOL Search Data

Monday, August 7th, 2006

As quite a lot of people know by now, AOL screwed up “a bit” by releasing search data. They took it offline ofcourse when it hit the news, but mirrors are appearing quickly.

While browsing the data, I/others found quite some interesting stuff, like people wanting to commit murder,
but I also want to point out the following user-trace of user 14109288 (stripped a bit for readability):

Note the timestamps of the last two lines, sounds like he had, well, an evening that did not go as planned :D

Trailer Remix

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Being a bit of a movie addict, I lately scour the internet looking for good trailer remixes.

One of the best I found is “Shining” :

Like them ? I’ve collected quite a few good others in my YouTube playlist (autoplay top 20).

[ note: I try to avoid adding all crap Brokeback Mountain-reference remixes, unless they’ve been done well ]

Too bad the Fight Club remix isn’t on YouTube (guess due to copyright issues).

Have fun day.
